What Is It For You?

It's out there,
Almost everyone's looking for it,
Anyone can take it,
But first it must be found.

It takes a lot of hard work,
And it requires determination.

Many do not have what it takes.

Some simply are unable,
Prevented by physical inability,
Or mental weakness.

But there are those who are able.

There are those who put forth every effort,
And they are the ones who take it home.

But what it is, depends on who you are...

- - What is it for you?

Peace,
Justin

Small and Insignificant

Small and Insignificant,
I stand here straight and tall,
One only in a mass of many,
Overlooked by almost all.

But there are some who see me,
Who do not pass me by,
Who proceed to get to know me,
Though, only a few even try.

Peace,
Justin

We're All the Same

We all are very different,
And yet we are the same,
We belong to one great family,
Although we are all of a different name.

We're born and raised in different homes,
We learn to live our own way,
But we all inhabit the same earth,
And share a common day.

We speak in different dialects,
And we live by different rules,
But we manage to communicate,
Though, we've been to different schools.

We are many different colors,
And we inhabit many different lands,
But we should learn to live in harmony,
And in humanity's name, join hands.

Peace,
Justin

Who I Am

Here I stand,
I'm who I am,
For everyone to see.

But I sometimes wonder,
If who I am,
Is who I want to be.

And do I show,
Who I am,
A bit too outwardly?

Peace,
Justin

A Song For My Shadows

Shadows collide around me,
Upon me and in my space,
Shadows obstruct the light of the sun,
And keep it from my face.

My useless eyes grow weary,
From straining through the night,
To see something that cannot be seen,
Without some source of light.

Peace,
Justin

Illustration Friday: Empty

Empty Bowl

Poem of the Week

Carmel Point
by Robinson Jeffers

The extraordinary patience of things!
This beautiful place defaced with a crop of surburban houses-
How beautiful when we first beheld it,
Unbroken field of poppy and lupin walled with clean cliffs;
No intrusion but two or three horses pasturing,
Or a few milch cows rubbing their flanks on the outcrop rockheads-
Now the spoiler has come: does it care?
Not faintly. It has all time. It knows the people are a tide
That swells and in time will ebb, and all
Their works dissolve. Meanwhile the image of the pristine beauty
Lives in the very grain of the granite,
Safe as the endless ocean that climbs our cliff.-As for us:
We must uncenter our minds from ourselves;
We must unhumanize our views a little, and become confident
As the rock and ocean that we were made from.

Illustration Friday

Alright, I'm trying out a new thing. It's called Illustration Friday. It seems like a really good idea, and maybe it'll encourage me to produce more art. I like drawing, but I don't spend a lot of time doing it. This is an online program, which gives a weekly topic to artistically represent. Then you upload it to your website and post a link on their site. Everyone gets to check out all of the other works and see all of the different interpretations of the topic. I think it's great. I get to share my work, and I get a free topic. Win-win situation. Anyways, I think it would be awesome if I could promote this, so EVERYONE CHECK OUT ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY! My first week's topic is "Aging." I'll post soon, tell me what you think. Since I've started doing this, one thing I've done is allow comments, DON'T MAKE ME REGRET IT! Thanks to all of those who have supported my art: poetry, drawings, etc...

Peace,
Justin
